Your host, Leon, will give you historical information and fun facts about Coober Pedy and the Jeweller's Shop Rd safe public noodling area, including its past as an active opal field!

Get your opal hunting kit for the night, including everything in our Gear Hire activity and learn how to use it all to find some opal together!

We kick things off at the parking area, near the picnic tables on Jeweller's Shop Rd, then Leon will guide you around the 50 year old mullock heaps, sharing some tips on spots where some ~$2,000 chunks have been found by other guests in the last year.

Once we're done with the opal hunting, it's back to the parking area, where we'll clean and inspect our opals. You'll receive some glass vials to store your best opal chips and a little kit to further clean any pieces still coated with a skin or rock. You'll also receive information on where to take your opals in town for an appraisal and professional cut if you're wanting to turn them into some jewellery!

Your host will tailor the experience to suit you, ie if you're not keen on walking as much or avoiding any rougher ground.

A native English speaker, Leon also speaks fluent Japanese and survival Mandarin. If you only speak a language outside of those, it's fine, we can get by with some translation aids!
