Opal Digging Diary 03 - Black Flag

A quickie dig and some more excavated footwear

Only ~45 mins digging today. You can tell by the shadow cast that I got there a bit later in the day. We were still able to both lengthen and deepen the trench, while maintaining a fairly flat surface where the spoils were dumped.

I'll be happy once I clean those sides up, so everything's neat!

Another day, another bit of footwear surfaces! Not as flashy as the pair recently found, but today's sandal also tells a story. Note the strap failed on the edge, not the usual in-between toes spot. Was this due to some aggressive attempted dance moves by a tourist under the famous nearby Coober Pedy blower? An angry mother ripping it off her foot to threaten her child not to misbehave after a long drive? Who knows? Is this your sandal? If you think so, contact me and we can do a Cinderella style fitting!

A few more jaspers added to the pile today, including some chonky ones! Looking forward to using them once I remember to bring a bucket or the wheelbarrow next time!

A neat rectangle

The aim for next dig, if it's at least a couple of hours' worth, will be to get the whole plotted rectangular area clear of soft top soil and onto the hard stuff and really get into that with the crowbar.
